Once exported, you can not remove the "created with trial."
You will have to export your project again after you enter your serial number and sign in. Also delete the preview files.
I'm not sure what I need to do. I installed the newly purchased software and then tried to run the same video I was creating. I did not un-install the trial... the installation updated the trial version to a paid version. If I create a new video the "trial" wording doesn't appear but I cannot find a way to convert my original trial video to a permanent copy

If you exported it using the Share option while it was still a trial, you can't remove the watermark.
Just open the project file in the paid version and export (Share) again to recreate it without the watermark.
Premiere Elements does not change your original media which you imported to the project.
When you open the Premiere Elements 14 tryout file in the purchased Premiere Elements 14, go to the Timeline Menu/Delete Rendered Files and click on that.
Then rendered the Timeline content by pressing on the Render button above the Timeline. (You can also do the rendering by pressing the computer keyboard Enter key or by going the route Timeline Menu/ Render Work Area. That is the classical way of removing the Adobe watermark from the tryout's project file.
Some of us, including myself, have open the Premiere Elements tryout file in the purchased product and had the Adobe watermark removed automatically and immediately.
See which one works for you.
If you have exported a file from the tryout file or did a burn to disc from the tryout file, you cannot remove the Adobe watermark from either type of export.
Not sure if you are interested in more information about that Adobe watermark. If so, please see
It probably goes beyond what you seek, but the Introduction does contain the basic information on this matter.
Add On...otherwise is your purchased Premiere Elements 14 installed and activated with the purchased serial number? Under Expert workspace Help Menu/ do you see a Sign In or Sign Out? Can you open a new project in your purchased Premiere Elements 14 and have it open without the Adobe watermark?
