I've recently encountered a problem on Indesign - where an .indd file I have previously used for data merging now just crashes when I double click on my data source (trying to select it). I have tried resetting preferences with CTRL/SHIFT/ALT on startup, and even upgraded to the latest version of Indesign. I've also tried saving as an Indesign Markup, but nothing seems to fix the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Does this happen on a new file using the same data source? If not, try exporting the file to IDML, closing the document, opening the IDML and see if you can then select a new or the same data source.
The problem seems to be localised to the one indesign template I have, no matter what source I use.
I can open the csv files in other templates without issue.
Exporting to IMDL didn't work either. It was a bit of a Frankenstein template anyway, I may just have to bite the bullet and start fresh.
You might be able to simply copy and paste the existing placeholders and other elements into a new file and have it work. That works for the preview bug with merges.
