you're getting white space in your variable's value. you can use the length of thumbAlphaTxt (before trying to convert to a number) to confirm.
then use a function to strip the white space and/or use the ampersand before and after your variable/value statement.

It's not a problem of whitespaces because the debugger really states thumbAlpha='10'
I know that you thought of it because i understated my config.txt file.

then you may be trying to use thumbAlpha before loading is complete. so, the code that loads your textfile and tries to convert thumbAlpha to a number.

I inserted code to wait for the whole external variables, and swaped parseInt for Number and now it works allright.
