You need to delete the Preview Cache.
It is located in the same folder as the Lightroom Catalog. The preview cache name ends with Previews.LRDATA and should be deleted. Do not confuse this with *.LRCAT, which should not be deleted.
Thank you for helping me, But, I tried finding the Lightroom Catalog folder
to delete Previews.LRDATA. Can you tell me where I can find this folder?
If you have not change its default location then there would be a Lightroom folder in Pictures.
The folder Previews.LRDATA contains all the data. I do not fill confident enough to delete it. What if not? What if I'll lose all my data forever???
Catalogname Previews.lrdata FOLDER contains the previews. It’s ok to delete this after exiting LR.
Catalogname.lrcat FILE is your LR catalog. Do not delete this.
To be safe, create a backup of your LR catalog before deleting anything.
Don't delete any photo files.
The deleting referred to in this thread is done in the operating system not within Lightroom.
But why does this happen EVERY TIME I open Lightroom. The program works for about 5 minutes and then the preview message pops up. I delete the preview file, restart and five minutes later the cycle begins again.
The next time you restart your computer, I would run a disk check scan to see if it finds any bad sectors or other disk problems, since you are seeing this problem that frequently.
Scanned the hard drive and no problems reported. Started Lightroom and in less than 2 minutes, the preview problem appeared AGAIN. This has been going on from the moment I loaded Lightroom as a new program and the longest up time has been about 10 minutes. Can I have my money back?
You're not talking to Adobe here. We are just Lightroom users, we can't give you your money back.
Despite the hard drive scan, I agree that this is a hard drive problem of some sort. Can you try to move the catalog file to a different disk?
Great result. As you suggested dj_paige, I moved the catalog to an external hard disk and just have completed two hours of blissfully uninterupted editing.
Thank you so much for your help in eliminating my exasperation - and thanks also to all the others in the community who give of their time so unselfishly.
