Try to rename a subfolder in LR 5 and get the message "This folder (new name) couldn't be renamed or moved. A file or folder with that name exists." Should I find that folder in the LR catalog and delete it and rename the present folder?
By the way, I changed the name of the subfolder because it wouldn't accept an image that was in it before. I don't know how it disappeared and reimported it. With the new name it accepted the addition, but prevented me from going back to the original, more appropriate name.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
The error message clearly stated that there is a folder in that location with the same name.
Please navigate to the location of the sub-folder and change the existing folder name.
Hope this helps.
Since LR is not a file browser, by default it does not display your folders in a fully seen tree like a file browser does. On some of your folders containing images, right-click, "show parent". (Repeat as needed.)
See if this fixes some of the confusion.
In the Finder, I found the folder that had the name preventing me from using it. I moved it to trash and everything is hunky-dory now. Thank all who tried to help me.
