Please refer the steps below:-
- Could you please make sure that you are using the Correct Catalog From File>>Open recent
- If you had an external drive/Camera/card Connected from where you imported those Pictures,Reconnect it and see if Pictures reappear.
- Also Synchronize the Parent Folder containing your images,Refer QuickTip: Synchronizing Photos in Lightroom | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV
- If you see a ? on your Folder. It means that folder needs to relinked in Lightroom.Refer Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

Thank you Akash!
My wife discovered the problem!
I left a picture open when I went to have dinner. The monitor naturally
went to sleep.
When I came back I clicked the mouse to restart things. Unfortunately, the
mouse was on a lie of commands I am not familiar with:
Text, Attributes, Metadata, and None. When I clicked the mouse it hit
"Attributes." When I clicked on "None", everything was back back just the
way I had left it.
I knew it must have been something weird because the Lightroom 6 Catalog had
all its files, and a check of Lightroom Preferences showed that the catalog
was correctly pointed to.
Thank you again.
Thanks for the update
Good to know you figured it out
