Try opening up a project that doesn't use Chinese fonts, does it work?
Try uninstalling those fonts. Does that Chinese project work again?
What exact version number of AE do you have?
What OS version number do you have?
Hi, thanks for getting back to me, Szalam.
I have no problem with AE otherwise. Just what I discribed. If I remove the fonts, the project opens up again without a problem.
AE CC14 13.2. Windows 7 SP1.
I don't suppose you could try some other Chinese font and see if it behaves could you?
You also could try it in CC 2015 and see if it helps. I'm running the latest 13.6 update on Windows 7 SP1 and it's behaving just fine. Just make sure you don't let the CC app remove your old versions when you "update" (like it defaults to do)! See this: keeping previous versions installed when installing CC 2015 applications
Note: this is just a troubleshooting step. I am not suggesting that you move your production on all your machines over to CC 2015 immediately (especially not in the middle of a project)! Installing it won't disturb your CC 2014 install (as long as you uncheck the box to remove old versions). That being said, if you start using CC 2015, it works for you, and you like it (as I do), then, by all means, have your team start using it.
If this project doesn't work in CC 2015, you could also try it in CC (version 12) and/or CS6 (version 11). Those are both available through the Creative Cloud app too. http://blogs.adobe.com/adobecare/2015/06/16/how-to-find-and-install-previous-version-of-ad obe-apps-in-cc-2015/
This page talks about which versions can save to which versions: opening After Effects projects from previous versions and saving back to previous versions (It's nice that CC 2015 and CC 2014 can work with the same AE project files without all that "save as" rigmarole. )
Thanks again, Szalam.
The problem is in both CC14 and CC15 and the problem doesn't happen with other Chinese fonts.
Can you or someone shed some light on what the error code is, though?
I'm afraid one, generic error isn't much to go on. You said you get several errors. Any chance you could let us know the text from all of them?
Some Chinese fonts work, but the fonts from the client don't...hmmm...
Is there one, specific, font that is causing the issue from the client or do all of them throw the errors?
I'm investigating this, but it's not consistent.
I split the project into several little ones. One composition per project. I then open them one by one. With the same font, one crashes and another doesn't.
I'll issue a bug report with Adobe, attaching the comp and font that crash my system, and we'll see.
Thanks for your help!
