    Unwanted shadows & overprints

What's the best way to export a print-ready PDF to ensure that InDesign effects will not result in unwanted shadows, 'overprints', and other unexpected graphic results? I've been using X1-a, but have yet to use this on any job that has multiple InD effects so I'm not sure. I got burned earlier this year on an ad for this same customer and want to avoid further aggravation with them. I was going to rasterize the ad's PDF with Photoshop then repaste back into the ad book, but want to avoid extra tasks, especially when the ad book's subject to multiple revisions & updates. See attached.
