1. Re: Can u open Captivate 4 .cp files in Captivate 3?
Captiv8r Feb 10, 2009 6:54 PM (in response to davemachews)Hi Dave
Captivate 3 has no clue about Captivate 4 created files. But Captivate 4 is able to open Captivate 3 files. Usually the author is given a chance to save a copy in version 3 format, as once 4 touches it, 3 can no longer recognize it.
Captivate is not like Microsoft Office applications where one may save in older formats. I'm not sure why, I'm sure there's a technical reason behind it, but that's the case.
Cheers... Rick

davemachews Feb 10, 2009 7:09 PM (in response to davemachews)WOW that is really quick!!
Appreciate that sir.
But regarding your 2nd sentence where a chance to save a copy in
version 3, you mean to say that The captivate 4 user will be prompted
with an option to save it in a version 3 format?

5. Re: Can u open Captivate 4 .cp files in Captivate 3?
trainwithtim Feb 10, 2009 11:12 PM (in response to davemachews)I recall seeing a post somewhere that mentioned having both CP3 & CP4 open on one machine, and doing a copy / paste exercise - between Cp4 and Cp3.
I can confirm this is possible - as I've just done it. In my case the Cp4 file had variables, advanced actions etc in it, when copied to Cp3 the invalid elements (for Cp3) were replaced with a Continue statement. But it did work...
Not ideal, but a workaround maybe....

sparkeast-S5Choo Feb 11, 2009 4:19 AM (in response to davemachews)I am still running the trial version of cp4. To be safe, I have been duplicating my cp3 files first to a new folder and then running them in cp4. I've found compatibility issues in the past when upgrading. I'd rather be safe!
