Open Dialog Slow in Network Location with LOTS of folders?

I have a client that refuses to go to a newer version of Acrobat as he does not like the new features/layout.

He is running Acrobat 9 Standard on Windows7 x64

When he opens a folder called "Case Folders" from the server, it take a few seconds to populate the entire folder. So let's say there is a few hundred folders, it will first load A through H then a few seconds later it will load up to M etc etc until it is loaded all the way through Z.

This delay drives my client nuts and I cannot seem to figure out a way to speed this up. Is it an Acrobat 9 issues? I believe he said it was resolved when he tried DC.
