F4V!? FLV or whatever ... currently Director doesn't support it natively (Director and Flash have been created and developed by the exactly same companies after all - what did you expect?), so any Flash video needs to be wrapped inside an .SWF. You can access it's native functions however, i.e. set it to play, pause, seek etc. directly from Director scripting.

If I make an SWF that plays an FLV, that works fine in versions 10 and 11 of Director.
But if I make a SWF that plays an F4V, the video doesn't play or even show up at all in either version of Director.
it's the Flashasset xtra. this is not able to work with flash 10.
I wonder whether the OP has the 11.03 "hotfix" installed - if not it
might be worth testing.

for playing F4V you need Dir 11.5.
it cannot work as embedded SWF, since that requires Flashplayer 10.
Director 11 and 11.5 flash asset works only with Flashplayer 9
