Hi AndreaSD2015, I hope you will get an answer for that, because I got along the same problem as well (obviously almost at the same moment...
I keep fingers crossed there is a way to create the QR-Codes from Data Merge sources, but couldn't find any information on that by now...
From your screenshot, I can't tell what version of ID you're using, apart from that it's Italian. What operating system are you using and what version of InDesign are you using?
I ask because this feature was introduced from CC 2014, so if you're using an earlier version, the feature won't work. If you're using this version up, then it may be a bug.
Hi Colin Flashman, I'm using CC 2015, but is there such a feature for merging the text from a text file to a QR-Code? And if yes, do you have a link, where we, Andreas and me, can find information on it? I didn't find any helpful information how to build the excel-file to get an QR-Code from that to InDesign...?
Thank you very much!
Thanks Colin, MacOs with InDesign CC version 9.0 ..... year 2013...
Well you could always upgrade as part of the CC subscription... unless you have specific reasons that you're staying on that version.
@RA1975 - I wrote this article on InDesignSecrets all about the basics of QR code to data merge: http://indesignsecrets.com/data-merge-qr-codes-explained.php - hope that helps.
Dear Colin Flashman, I'm stuck now... I hope you might be able to help me...
I tried to follow the instructions under http://indesignsecrets.com/data-merge-qr-codes-explained.php, but I seem to do something wrong.
I guess I do a mistake when going to the next entry, for example, when I have "TITLE:Manager;" and then there should start "TEL;TYPE=cell:" in a new line, I thought, so InDesign can see that a new line starts. Right? How can I do this?
And, when scanning the code that is generated, I get no vCard-Format, but only Text, what am I doing wrong there?
Thank you very much and best regards,
I visited the website vCard 3.0 format specification | www.evenx.com and noted that when making VCARD QR codes the following had to be implemented:
Properties available in vCard version 3.0 are listed below. They have to be separated through line breaks.
Properties can be defined in any order (except BEGIN, END, VERSION).
This means unlike the sample written in the indesignsecrets article which was for MATMSG, VCARD does require line breaks represented by the \n in the code.
That said, I borrowed some of your code to make the following sample:
BEGIN:VCARD\nVERSION:2.1\nN:Muller;Fritz;;Mr\nFN:Fritz Muller\nORG:123-456Test-Company\nTITLE:Manager\nTEL;TYPE=cell:+49 173 123-456\nADR;WORK:;;100 Waters Edge;Baytown;LA;30314;United States of America\nLABEL;WORK;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:100 Waters Edge=0D=0ABaytown, LA 30314=0D=0AUnited States of America\nEMAIL;TYPE=PREF;INTERNET:email@example.com\nEND:VCARD
(this should all be on one line in your text file)
On my phone, I wasn't having too much luck getting the address to populate the correct fields, but different apps on different phones running different versions of VCARD make this awkward.
Hope this helps
