What data does Lightroom not import from file?

    olivers61543936

Is there some metadata that lightroom does not read from file?

Like certain very specific develop settings etc?

And if it does not, would it reset these settings when reading metadata from a file?

      I use:

      LR 6.3 on Windows 7 Professional 64bit

The files are all on local disks, partly on the same SSD as the operating system, partly on a different disk.

      Thanks.

Could you be specific about the settings you are talking about?

In general, the in-camera adjustments you can specify that modify the image (things like sharpening, saturation, contrast, black-and-white, etc.) are not read by Lightroom. Other items that deal with the capture of the image, like exposure, aperture, iso speed and white balance are read by Lightroom.

I think that's what the OP is trying to find out, DJ.

Oliver, could you not simply convert a Raw file and then compare the Exif found in the Raw and that in the conversion, using an Exif reader like Exiftool?

Note too that there's a difference between Exif not copied and Exif not read. Lr certainly ignores - doesn't apply - some Exif. but it's still in the files.

If one has an EXIF viewer that shows your ALL the data, like ExifTool, the big data section that gets ignored and not transferred during exports is the "MakerNotes" section. This is where Nikon and Canon put all the proprietary data about the camera settings not related to exposure.

As already mentioned LR does not read the MakerNote fields, which are unique to each camera manufacturer and camera model.

LR is a non-destructive editor and does not write to the original file. There is one notable exception, which is Capture Time. It can be changed using Library menu item Metadata> Edit Capture Time. This also requires checking the option in Catalog Preferences 'Write date or time changes into proprietary raw files.' If left unchecked the LR catalog will be updated with these changes, but not the original file. When Exporting or using the 'Edit In' function LR does not include the MakerNotes in the resulting new file.
