Maybe someone can help, i´m using AE cc2015 on Mac OSX. I´ve installed a new Graphic Card in my Mac Pro, hoping accelerating the speed in the preview window for my compositing (not only 3D, aslo 2D layer compositing). I bought the mac edition of NVIDIA GTX980 Titan with 6GB VRAM - i know it is unsupported for 3D. But it slws down my After effects, because now it is not possible viewing a ram preview in realtime - it slows down to 10 f/s . With my old ATI 5780 there is no problem in the ram view, always 25 f/p. I also tried switch mercury playback on/off or using only the CPU instead the GPU.
Did you update your Mac OS on this machine at all? What OS is it running now? What was it running before?
What exact version number of AE are you running?

I'm afraid that was a misguided purchase. Other than the (now considered obsolete) ray-traced renderer, After Effects doesn't use the GPU for much. See this: GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects
i´ve updateted to 10.11.1 , because the card only work with a newer OS. Before i had installed 10.9.5 - i hadn´t a download for 10.10.
AE Version is 220.127.116.11
Of cause i made a 2nd hd for this. At the moment i downgraded the card to my old an working with AE Version is 18.104.22.168 with OS 10.9.5 - the ram preview playback is fine.
Thanks - i also think that the graphic card was a misguided purchase.
i think i need a faster mac (now it is a mac pro 2012 6core with 24 GB Ram an a SSD Raid). Also to use a 4K display
