Can you import them into a new project?
Sorry I should have added that in my original post.
No, they also won't import.
What does it do when you try to open it? What about when you try to import it? Are there error messages? Are they different depending on import vs. open? What is the exact text of the messages?
The process is I open AE, File>Open, the file starts to load for maybe 10 seconds, and then poof, AE disappears and is closed. The Mac interface displays "Adobe After Effects CC 2015.0 (13.6) quit unexpectedly. Would you like to send an error report?" This happens the same for both Open and Import.
That's very strange. (You are sending those error reports, right? The AE team finds them very useful.)
I've not heard of that sort of issue before.
Try it in 13.2. AE CC 2014 can open files saved in AE CC 2015.
I am sending them, glad to hear they use them. I'm starting to wonder if it's plugin related maybe. I'll try on 2014.
I tried in 2014 but it's still doing the same thing. The effects used are:
Effects used: 24
Effect: Bevel Alpha
Effect: Change to Color
Effect: Colorista II
Effect: Denoiser II
Effect: Drop Shadow
Effect: Edge Blur
Effect: Fast Blur
Effect: Fractal Noise
Effect: Gradient Ramp
Effect: Levels (Individual Controls)
Effect: Linear Color Key
Effect: Matte Choker
Effect: Matte Feather Sharp
Effect: MisFire Vignette
Effect: Motion Tile
Effect: Set Matte
Effect: Simple Choker
Effect: Warp Stabilizer VFX
My suspicion about the plugins appears to be well founded. One I noticed that was missing is Unmult and it appears Red Giant has a new version for CC 2015 that is built into the Universe suite. I downloaded the suite from their site and the free version includes Unmult. After installing I restarted AE and tried to open the project again and it opened with no problem.
So if anyone else runs into this problem you can resolve it by installing the new Red Giant Universe suite.
Thanks for passing that on! That's good to know.
