    Premiere Elements 14 stop working

    greg42082110

Program was installed a couple of weeks ago and was working fine including this morning. Then tried to open PE later in the day and it won't open. There are no messages/prompts or errors/warnings in the Event log.

Using PE 14 with the latest patches applied on Win 7 64 bit OS updated with latest patches.

A reinstall of Premiere Elements did not work.

I purchase the Photo Elements together Premiere Elements and Photo Elements is working fine. The Organizer also launches without issue.

What gives? Disappointed and frustrated with a piece of software that provides no messaging of logging when it won't start.

          Hi Greg,

If you elaborate a little bit then we might be able to help you better. Is the program crashing? Does the purple splash screen appear on your machine? Was there any recent windows update or software installation that might have caused this issue?

          Thanks

It appears reinstalling twice is the charm. PE now working again.

To answer your questions and log the additional info:

Yes the program is/was crashing. Using a process explorer, the AdobePremiereElements.exe process would very briefly appear and then shutdown. Sometimes the initiation process and then shutdown was quick enough to not to be captured within the process explorer viewer (equivalent to Window Task Manager Process Viewer).

No purple screen ever appeared. Tried launching the EXE instead of shortcut but to no avail. When launching PE from the Welcome Screen the little circle would continue to spin forever.

Reviewed the Windows updates and the last one applied was for Office products 5 days ago, no update for the Windows System logged within the last 10 days.

            Thanks for your response

Premiere Elements 14 on Windows 7 64 bit.

By any chance did this problem surface after you had updated  Premiere Elements 14 to 14.1 with an opened project's Help Menu/Updates?

Is this "will not open" for new projects as well as for saved closed projects?

In your reinstall, did you go through the uninstall, free ccleaner, reinstall with antivirus and firewalls routine?

              The usual...

              a. Does the problem exist with or without the antivirus and firewalls disabled?

              b. Is your video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?

              c. Do you have QuickTime 7 installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements, and are you running the programs as administrator (from user account with administrative privileges)? In addition, have you right clicked the program's desktop icon and selected and applied Run As Administrator?

              d. Have you restarted the computer in between troubleshooting steps?

              e. In the weeks of successful workflows, have you built up pile cups of preview files, conformed audio files, conformed video files?

See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and free hard drive space at those locations. Actually go to the locations in order to gauge the amount of files.

f, Once the projects were saved closed, did you move, delete, or rename any of the files and folders that were imported into the project?

Please consider. Any questions or need clarification on the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

              Thank you.

-I was prompted for an update but did not =accept.

-"will not open" means it will not open period. The program did not get far enough to allow selecting a new project or a saved project.

-the uninstall, reinstall was just that. No execution of the ccleaner or adjusting antivirus or firewalls

                a. did not try

Should do, just in case you were doing a lot of Timeline rendering with your HD projects.
