Hi, my problem is this: I'm moving, nudging, text up and down off of the baseline grid. But then, I can't select and edit the text properly. The highlighted selected area won't correspond to the text, so I have to highlight above or below it, in effect guessing where in the text it corresponds to. What am I missing??
Sounds like you are using Baseline Shift to accomplish this move, and what you are experiencing is a classic reason not to do this. Can what you want to do be accomplished by nudging the frame? Using multiple frames? Changing the leading? Adding paragraph space before or after?
I think a screen shot might help. I'm not sure why you'd be doing this extensively within text but you may have your reasons. One option I can recommend is to use the Story Editor. This will not reflect the visual appearance of the baseline shift but will easily allow you to select the text. Then you can use the keyboard shortcut to adjust the baseline shift of the selected text which is cmd+option+up or down arrow key (mac) or ctrl+alt+up or down arrow key (win). You can position the Story Editor window along side the layout and visual see how your adjustment appears as you make it.
