I am still very interested in talking to folks about general architecture ideas as it relates to performance and Cairngorm. So if anyone has experience with all that I'd love to hear from you.
First, analyze your app to see where the bottleneck is.
Is the problem the sheer size of the SWF? If so then you understand that this really only happens once, when the user first loads the app. thereafter, it is cached on the users system.
Is the problem in the amount of data you load at run time (RPC calls).
Is the bottleneck in the Flash Player's rendering of the first screen? Have you been setting creationPolicy="all"? If so, you are screwed. Do a text search for that.
Also, try the Flex Profiler, though I have not used it yet.
