I have 14K photos and catalog called "iphotopix" on an external drive created when I moved over from iphoto to LR CC. Prior to that move, I started using LR and now have 1K photos and a catalog called "Lightroom photos" on my internal drive. My goal is to combine the photos and catalogs into one, with at least the photos on an external drive. After that, I want to move LR, PS, plugins etc. to a new macbook pro.
Any suggestions on the correct workflow to complete these tasks? Also, is it better to keep the catalog on an internal drive with the photos on the external, or to keep the photos and catalog together on the external?
Please click on the below links to merge or import from another catalog.
Once done, please refer to the below link to move Lightroom from one computer to another.
Let me know if this helps.
thanks, Mrinmay. Those links are very useful. Let me be a little more specific with my question. I am looking for the best order in which to complete the tasks. Here is the order I am thinking about doing: 1. moving pictures from the internal to the external drive. 2. Move the catalog from the external to internal drive. 3. Merge the two catalogs to one on the internal drive. 4. Move the cc apps and catalog to the new computer.
Does this make sense or am I making it too complicated? Is it smarter to have the catalog on the main hard drive or is it better to keep the photos and the catalog together on the same drive? Can you share a link that talks about moving the creative cloud and apps to a new computer? I have the photographers bundle. Thanks so much.
