    13.6 and Media Encoder

I am getting kernel panics by rendering using Adobe Media Encoder and CC 2015 13.6.  My goal is to render out a bunch of 20 second title cards in 16-bit color to QuickTimes in an Avid DNxHD 220 codec.  Since I have 40 of these to create, I want to render in the background while continuing to work in After Effects.  I should have enough RAM and horsepower to do this.  The kernel panic suggests a problem with QT32 Server.  I also tried the BG Render script but get crashes as well.  I am using another Mac Pro to render them, but they take twice as long.  I have also tried rendering in AE 2015 and working in AE 2014 on the iMac, but the two apps are battling for the RAM and CPU power.  Is it the iMac that can't handle the background rendering or could it be QuickTime 7 and the Avid codec?  Is AME a stable option for rendering out of After Effects or is it mainly for Premiere?
