It seems like that set of images is already linked to some previews in the Catalog.
Would suggest you to make a note of one or two such images and do a search for those images in the catalog.
Refer these instructions to do a search :
- Choose All Photographs folder in the Library module
- Enable filter bar by going to View menu > show filter bar (if not already enabled)
- Select Text as the library filter
- Type in the filename in the search bar and check if it shows results.
Thanks for trying Chetna. When I do as you suggested, it shows the file, but disassociated. When I do Show in Finder, it goes to the correct file. But, when I try to re-associate in LR it stills gives me the same response that the file can only be associated with one photo. Any other ideas?
When you do the search, you need to first click on "All Photographs" before doing the search. Show us a screen capture of the search you did to mimic Chetna's search, so that we can see, on the left, that All Photographs has been chosen and so that we can see your actual search criteria. Also show us a screen capture of this problem when it happens.
Are the files in the exact same location as they were before your drobo crash? i.e. does the volume have the exact same name and folder structure? If so, you should not need to reassociate any files and you should be able to just double click on an image and Lightroom will realize it already knows where the image is. If it doesn't, you might need to quit Lightroom, unmount the drive and remount it and then open Lightroom again. I've seen Lightroom being very sluggish in recognizing that the disk it thought was unavailable was actually already mounted.
Jao...your suggestion worked!!!! Thank you so much!
I have the same message from Lightroom but my problem is this: I accidentally trashed and then emptied my files in folder. Then I re-imported them into a new location on my hard drive. Then I tried to locate my missing file thinking that it could be found. Then this message came up and I don't what to do since it did not give me another choice except the message that "the file ...is associated with another photo in the catalog." What should I do?
There is almost never a good reason to re-import photos, and that is what is causing your problem here.
First, the photos that have been re-imported should be deleted from Lightroom (but not from the hard disk).
Then, you need to find the photos in Lightroom that were previously in your catalog and are now shown as missing. Those are the ones you want to reconnect. If you did the above step, then you won't get this message.
I did have to re-import some files. When the "The file...is associated with another photo in the catalog" problem" warning comes out I click "Find in Library" (lower left) to find the file and delete it. Then the original photo is found. But it won't find the nearby files. So you have to do it one at a time. But it worked.
