I think that also Skype has a server side API, where you wouldn't need to
worry about merapi, and you wouldn't be tied to just AIR.

Could someone propose a technology-neutral server-based solution?
While the AIR app will forward SMS, I wonder, if a forward to a server proxy, which checks userID/password and then passes it along to an SMS gateway, is more secure: Even if someone cracks the AIR app, the server proxy can then act as a last resort and reject unauthorized access or track usage data.

Thx! Is Ribbit active yet? I thought, Ribbit is still in some BETA/ALPHA level. Isn't it so?
