Could you please confirm which version of Lightroom are you using?
Which operating system : windows or mac?
Does your import source location contain only images or images and videos?
Lightroom 6, windows, only images no video.

Go to Lightroom Preferences > Performance > uncheck "use graphics processor " > relaunch Lightroom and try to import again.
What is the import source location ? Is it your local hard drive or external drive or card?
I tried that. It did not work. When you press the import button a second box comes up and the import button is a different shade.

Once the update has been installed, you need to test if you are able to import.
If not, you should try to test it in a new catalog.
Go to File menu > choose New Catalog > choose the location > give it a name > choose relaunch > try to import within that catalog and let us know if that helps.
