I prepare a lot of various sized images for sale on eBay. When I crop my photos I want to always do it such that the image’s longest edge is 900 pixels. I used Photoshop Elements for a long time and it was a piece of cake there. In LR, I can’t seem to figure out how to do it. There are a handful of preset image crop sizes available, along with “custom”. However, custom lets me set an aspect ratio and that is not what I want. I want to be able to specify either the horizontal or vertical size as 900 pixels. Is there a way to do this?

Because editing in LR is non destructive and never changes the original, you can't crop to specific dimensions.
Crop the image the way you want it, and then set Long side to 900 pixels in the Export dialog.
As Per says crop your image to your desired aspect ratio and in the export dialogue box you can export your image to what ever dimensions you require. Then if this is something you use often save the settings as a preset. Then when you want to save a image to those dimensions again just right click and export with preset.
