it appears that there is NO solution for the problem, yet, except the painful reinstallation of Yosemite, right?
Only resolution as if now is to reinstall Yosemite.
that's just the worst...

There are a few third party utilities that do allow tethering on 10.11. Apparently Capture One works as does Nikon's latest version of their own camera control: Nikon | Download center | Camera Control Pro 2 (Mac) and apparently a piece of software called Smart Shooter 3 works. With any of these pieces of software you can just set up a folder they dump files in that you set up as a watched folder in Lightroom to get tethering again.
Since Nikon came out just before the holidays with their SDK for controlling cameras on El capitan, I would be very surprised if Adobe doesn't have tethering working in the next version as you can see here: Lightroom: Can't use tethering with Nikon and Leica after installing MacOS 10.11 El Capitan
