Could you please share the screenshot of exact error message that appears.
Please refer the following KB doc link discussing the same issue using Acrobat 8 and see if that helps in your case:
Let me know.

I should also mention that this is a very simple ALL TEXT 6 page file. Scanned at 300 dpi. black and white
Also I tried to copy the .dll you mentioned but I since this is Acrobat DC there is no file by that name. Also , there are about 25 .dll files that sort of fit the name of the file that was suggested to copy and paste. Could you help me by being more specific about which files to copy and paste with DC?
Yes, I am having this issue on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.1.
Can you please share the exact dot version of Acrobat Pro DC that is installed on your machine?
Also, is this error specific to one PDF File or this occurs for every file?
This happens to ALL files. My situation is this. I scan my files to PDF on a network shared drive. Then I use Adobe Acrobat PDF to split the files into manageable sizes and to recognize text (OCR). Just to be clear, The paper capture service doesn't work in any fashion regardless of where the files are stored. Whether they are stored on my PC or the network. I have had this problem EVERY SINGLE TIME i have updated versions of Acrobat. In the past, simply uninstalling all previous versions of Acrobat and reinstalling the new version solved the problem. However, this time that hasn't worked. I simply can not use Acrobat DC. I've tried copying the drs32.dll to the suggested Acrobat directory, and that didn't work. I am extremely frustrated. My primary job function is to make textbooks accessible to students. I NEED the Acrobat OCR function to work!
So far, with one very important doc I am trying to edit.
Error message is: Unable to process the page because the Paper Capture recognition service experienced an error. (6)
Here is my version #:
Can someone from Adobe please call me? This is so frustrating! I have tried to reach you by phone to no avail.
I get the same error on mine. "Unable to process the page because the Paper Capture recognition service experienced an error. (6)"
Another file I have doesn't even throw an error. I hit Edit PDF and nothing happens. I try to input text and the box disappears. If I put in an image, the image disappears. None of the text lets me edit it either.
This worked perfectly 2 weeks ago.
Acrobat Pro DC 2015.010.20056

Has anyone gotten Adobe to help them with this issue?
I have the same issue with one user and one Windows 10. I am going to call today.
What I found out on my own so far is that the Adobe is exactly the same code between my system that works and his that does not. So that would imply that it is something within the Windows operating system. I am at the point where I probably will have to give this user a fresh PC with a new Windows install on it. I will let you know how it goes.
My take is that the dll files that the OCR requires did not get properly registered with the Windows kernel on installation. And that is just too nasty to fix and the users needs a final soln that is more robust. So I think it has to do with a specific Windows 10 or whatever patch level and Adobe installation files inability to set the registry and register the dll files correctly.
I am out to prove it today. Now I am mad.
Hi there, were you able to resolve this issue? I just purchased an annual subscription and received the same error after installation. The pop-up error says "Unable to process the page because the Paper Capture recognition service experienced an error. (6)"
Please help me on this.
I just spent an hour chatting with tech support. The problem could not be resolved, even when the tech support had full remote access to my machine.
I asked to have a supervisor contact me tomorrow. I'll let you know if that happens.
Anthony - were you able to get a response from that supervisor?
All - experiencing same issues in fully updated Acrobat (Pro) DC 18.009.20050. Paying regularly for subscription, as are many in our company so need resolution we are to stay with Adobe ASAP. Ironically this issue may have been triggered by test drive install of Nuance (at others' urging) and turns out that Nuance has just one advantage over DC Pro, its OCR. Key to my job with lots of legal docs review! Adobe, please fix this or we really will go.

Wow. Adobe, are you really going to leave the compromised functionality of OCR - a key feature of all PDFs (not JPEGs!) - unresolved for much longer than a year!? Hundreds of people in our company and new IT. Is this the message we are getting as we review options?
