          hi,
          if you have this error when you try to communicate with ws probably you send params to web service, but the xml is not well formed.
          Else, if you have this error during compiling you must sure that the code is well formed
          <a>
          <meta></meta>
          </a>

          All tag must be open and closed

            Well i m getting this error while communicating with WS.

            I have created this ws using jdeveloper and i can test it in jdeveloper where it shows the right thing. i mean well formed xml.

            Strange thing is i dont see the meta tag anywhere when i test my ws in jdeveloper. So, even not sure what actually is causing this.

                    You should check out a web service proxy tool called Charles. You can see all the information to / from a web service. It's an amazing tool. Google Charles Web Service Proxy you'll find it.

                        hie

                        here is the code:

                        <mx:HTTPService id="headCountService"
                        resultFormat="e4x"
                        fault="headCountService_fault(event);"
                        result="headCountService_result(event);"
                        url=" http://localhost:8988/HeadCount-HeadCountService-context-root/headcountwssoaphttpport"/>

                        private function headCountService_fault(evt:FaultEvent):void {
                        var title:String = evt.type + " (" + evt.fault.faultCode + ")";
                        var text:String = evt.fault.faultString;
                        alert = Alert.show(text, title);
                        }

                        private function headCountService_result(evt:ResultEvent):void {
                        var statListAll:XMLList = new XMLList(evt.result.stat);
                        }

                        I am calling the service in the main mxml file as
                        <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx=" http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
                        showFlexChrome="false"
                        layout="vertical"
                        preinitialize="headCountService.send();">

                        And error is coming from the method headCountService_fault

                          Is it possible that your web service is receiving something with an ill
                          formed tag. I'd second bitwyse's suggestion.
