You can rename your images directly in Lightroom.
Select the set of images > go to Library menu > rename Photos.
You can also refer this link : How to manage photos within folders in Lightroom
Yeah I know that, but it's unrealistic to rename every photo with a "custom name." Additionally, if i selected more that one photo, it would rename all the photos tot he same name. That's not what I want. I want a way to remove a word from the file name of multiple files. This is how finder does it. But then lightroom can't locate the files. Relocating the file individually is even more intensive then renaming one by one
Thanks for the update.
I just tested it on my end and found a way out. Lets test if it works on your end.
Would suggest you to test it with 2-3 images first and check.
Select 2-3 images > go to rename photos> click on the dropdown menu and choose Edit> delete custom text which is already present in the text box> Choose original number suffix from the second dropdown under Image name > add hyphen "_" next to it in the text box > choose Filename number suffix from the first dropdown under Image name > check if the example shows the image name as you expect > click on Done and check.
You really ought to check out Joachim's suggestion, above.
Yeah.. you might want to try the other suggestion as I am short of more ideas.
