Place cursor does not automatically load when placing a picture

      Hi,

I'm very new at InDesign and am currently following a course on it. In the course they show how to "place" a picture inside your document by clicking "place" in the "file" menu, and then choosing your graphical content from the pop-up dialog box. As shown in the course I chose the .ai file used for the exrcise. It gets loaded just fine in the document, but the course says it should also automatically load the "place cursor" or "place gun". This does not happen. The image is just sitting there. I've absolutely no experience with InDesign, so I've also no idea where in the menu's I have to go look to activate the place cursor, or change the default setting so that it does automatically load when placing a document.

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

      Thanks!

      Ana
