Need to play a SWF movie from my app

I have written a Flex app that I want to use as a "player" for a swf movie (it's a recording that is made and saved to a server using a process I have no control over).

I'm getting the security sandbox violation, and I'm passed pulling my hair out trying to make it work. My app is at http://flexApp.domain.ca/app/main.html, and I want to play a swf located at http://video.domain.ca/lengthyPathToFile.swf. I don't need any interaction between them, other than for the app to play the movie.

I had the server admins put a crossdomain.xml file on the video server, and I put one on my flexApp server (mine allows access from "*.domain.ca"). I have tried the Security.allowDomain(" http://video.domain.ca") line, but that didn't work either.

The video I'm trying to play can be accessed thru an html page, but I can't find how to put html content into a flex app (I can find resources for putting it in an AIR app).

Is there an easier/alternate way to do this, or am I missing some huge piece of the puzzle?

      Thank you!
