    Lightroom auto enhances images

I'm pretty new to Lightroom and I shoot in raw but when I import my images they automatically boost in contrast and crunch the shadows and look darker and I can't find a solution. It also looks the same when I view the cr2 files in windows photo viewer

Inside your raw files, there is a bunch of settings from your camera about how to develop the image (contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc). Some of these are grouped into "profiles" like Standard, Neutral, Vivid.  Lightroom does not read this data. Instead, LR applies its own profile "adobe standard" for the initial viewing. In the Develop module, you will find the Calibration panel where you can pick a different profile including approximations to the profiles Canon put in the camera.
