- Go to Lightroom > Preferences.
- Also please Go to the Preferences > Performance Tab, and uncheck "Use Graphics Processor "
- Restart Lightroom and see if it works.
Success, but will that slow down loading pictures in future?
Another problem I have had is pictures looking fuzzy. pixellated when I scroll through them and generally loading slowly
Many thanks, by the way

You are Welcome, Glad to help.
No, that should not make any difference in the performance.
For the Previews generating slow, please go to the preferences of Lightroom > File Handling, and increase the size of the Camera Raw Cache to around 50 GB.
Restart Lightroom and then check.
That works as well.
Out of interest, should I purge the cash sporadically?
Yes, you may.
That should not be an issue.
Yup, touch wood all good, cheers
I tried out your suggestion but it didn't work. I still get a black screen. I have Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7, 64-bit, Lightroom 6. Do you have any other suggestions ?
Could you please let me know the exact version of Lightroom installed on your computer?
I have Lightroom 6.
Hi again Tanuj,
In case this is important, the exact version is Lightroom 6.0. Hope this helps.
Please make sure that you update Lightroom to the latest version: 6.5.1
Click on Help>Updates.
The only update 6.5.1 which I can find is for After Effects. Please can you direct me to the right
place to find the LR update. Also, please confirm this update is free of charge. Thank you.
I have just installed the 6.5.1 update. I tried to start the slideshow but the same thing happens – a black screen again.
Have you any idea where to go from here to find a solution ?
Firstly please check and make sure that the option for "Use Grpahics Processor" is unchecked under preferences.
Yes, Tanuj, that box was unchecked when I again got the black screen.
Please close Lightroom and then try the following steps:
- Go to the Device Manager of Windows, from there expand Display Adapters.
- Disable the graphic card and then open Lightroom.
I tried what you suggested, but after I disabled the drive, the screen went black and I couldn’t access any
other programs. Any other ideas ?
Could you please try to uninstall and reinstall the application once.
Before I do this, tell me if I will I have to re-install the update 6.5.1 also.
You need to install Lightroom 6.0 first and then update it to the latest version of 6.5.1
Ok. I have just received an update from Adobe for LR and Elements which is downloading now. When it’s
finished I will do as you have instructed.
Same result – black screen. Going to bed now. Speak again tomorrow. Good night.
As I told you last night, all the suggestions you gave me yesterday did not solve the problem.
Do you have any other possible solutions for me to try.
Is it possible you have a combination of these settings-
1. Checked a Black Intro screen?
2. Manual slide change?
3. No images selected on the film-strip (or only one selected)
These three together give a blank black screen and no images.
With multiple images selected, a 'Black Intro' and 'Manual Change' requires you to press the right-arrow key to advance to the images past the black intro screen.
The intro screen is unchecked; I have tried it checked and unchecked, but it makes no difference.
I have tried manual and automatic slide change, but again no difference. It doesn’t matter if I
have highlighted one or several images in the filmstrip, I still get the black screen. Incidentally,
I can see that the slideshow is in fact advancing under the black screen, because when I press
ESC to get rid of the black screen, the slide showing is always later than the one which was
showing before I pressed ‘Play’.
In case there is another setting I need to change, I list below the current settings on the right
panel of the screen. ‘ch’ means checked, ‘un’ means unchecked.
- zoom to fill frame, un
