[Update]: Due to some unexpected issues we have decided to postpone the release for Thursday, January 21st

Wednesday, January 20st, at 11:00 UTC, we will update the Business Catalyst service to include some improvements and minor bug fixes.  Please find below the detailed list of changes included in the update:

  • Implemented break and continue statement for liquid loops
  • Added a new liquid filter (date_add) allowing users to perform date add / subtract operations
  • Updated geocoding database for more accurate map positioning
  • Added client side caching on REST APIs so that   customers can benefit from increased performance on subsequent requests
  • 2766779 - Fixed a bug causing catalog import to create incorrect SEO friendly URL for catalogs when importing multi-level catalogs
  • 3733037, 3829379, 4105262 - fixed some issues preventing the system from sending invitation emails on some cases
  • Updated customer list back-end infrastructure to improve performance and prevent time outs when handling large customer lists. List sorting and filtering works as before if the site has less than 100,000 contacts. Above 100,000 the list will automatically be sorted by Name ascending. Additionally, we have replaced the export mechanism with the one currently used for web apps and products and added a max export limit (500,000 items); If a site has more items, they can be exported in chunks (like products and web apps)
  • Added some additional anti-spam checks on email campaigns. As such, a newly upgraded site will not be able to automatically send campaigns to more than 2000 subscribers (this will require approval by our support team). Additionally, users cannot send a test email to more than 5 email addresses nor can send more than 1 test email per minute.
  • Updated CRM forecasting filters to add current (and future) years
  • Labels update on webBasics and webBasics+ plan to clearly specify a site is in trial mode
  • Updated the Authorize.NET integration to update some URLs
  • Fixed a bug preventing users from validating passwords including some special characters
  • 4104715 - Fixed an issue that was generating an incorrect help and support URL

Nice. I'll be able to implement a couple of these straight away. Will files in the app folder be hidden (other than public folder) with this release?

Hi Scott,

Yes, we will also enable the flag, although it's not related with the release.

Hi Crisitnel,

Thank you for the update note and continued work on updating the platform, The date items will help make date calculation code a lot smaller! and some of the others are useful too, the loop ones will be good for performance.

Just one small gripe with the timing, It does not give us much notice, I know this update is mostly small but one day before the release is a little short notice. Things like:

  • Added client side caching on REST APIs so that customers can benefit from increased performance on subsequent request

For example could have a bit more information please? Things should not have impacts on things but very often they do and just having a heads up, you can at least test an issue to see if it is associated with part of a release.

Thanks

Hey Liam,

We added a mechanism similar to the one from static assets. Imagine you have an open platform app which displays a paginated grid of customers. You navigate through the grid (first page, second page, and then you return to the first page). Second time you access the first page you the response will be retrieved from browser cache if and only if there were no changes made on site (same happens if you relaunch the application).

In theory, this caching will make apps run faster.

Hey Cristinel,

Brett can not post but had a comment about the subscription limit:

I’m not sure of many of our websites that have less than 2000 subscribers

I think this threshold is way too low. 10,000 would be a better number please.

Did you mean 20000? or is it 2000?

It's 2000 and it's not really low as it covers more than 95% of the sites on BC. Additionally, we do have a mechanism to automatically white label sites after they've sent a few campaigns with good KPIs (bounce rate, spam, etc).
