I am hoping someone can help we. I have created a word document that I am trying to link to a large number of indesign files. I would like the link to work like and image link so that if I change the word document it notifys me in the indesign files that the content has changed.
I have gone into the following
Preferences > File Handling > Create Links when placing text and spreadsheet files
and ticked the Create Links when placing text files option.
However it does not stay ticked as the default.
Can any one help me?
You can set that option as a default for new documents if you set it when no documents are open.
Be aware that if you turn on that option, if you have applied any formatting in InDesign, when you update your placed Word file, the InDesign formatting will be discarded. The style(s) or whatever would have to be reapplied.
Yes I did read that, but I would rather update the style than some one opening the file the information being wrong unless you know of another options.
You would be far better off using InCopy for this. It's included with your Creative Cloud subscription.
