Double-click on the eyedropper tool, and select the properties that you want it to pick up. Why that changed suddenly for you I don't know. Perhaps your preferences were reset or something.

The eyedropper appears to be picking up the attributes of the element on the topmost layer of the point where you click it. In my case it was an FPO full-page boundary with a black outline. If you hide the layers above your text box, or move the text box to the topmost layer of your document, the eyedropper will function properly.
