I'm relatively new to Indesign and as my screen name would indicate, coming from Corel Ventura. I've searched the forum/web and am wondering if there is a script out there that allows you to place a RTF document with tagged text <ParaStyle:> and have Indesign recognize the paragraph tags. I know it's not native to ID as this only works with ASCII/ANSI text. Has there ever been a discussion to allow this functionality? It's an incredibly powerful tool for anyone doing longer layouts where a lot of work/editing is done outside of ID prior to final layout. Thanks in advance.
There is an InDesign Tagged Text language.
Yes, but it only supports ASCII/ANSI as the original format as I mentioned. This does not allow you to have italic/bold/underline etc. without also coding all of that too.
Using a find/replace in MS Word to add the tags for font attributes (and other items, such as VP tags to their equivalent for ID tagged text, etc.) then saving the file as an ASCII file is the only means I know of to port the VP tagged text files for use in ID.
Sorry. I haven't ever found a Word macro that would automate all the changes required. I suspect one could be written, though. But as the manuals and other long documents I needed to bring over from VP has happened over a long enough period, I never bothered with investigating it myself.
