I need to do a factory reset on my Toshiba laptop because I installed windows 10 32 and I have a 64. So I plan to do a factory reset and go back to windows 8 and then install windows 10 64. My question is do I need to load all my photos on an external drive and then re-install them on the new system? Also do I need to deactivate my Account which is the $9.99 a month setup or do I just Reinstall and my photos and work will still be there? I am a newbie trying to learn so any help will be appreciated! I plan on using 2 pc's so I need to make sure I can get back the one I have now. I know the factory reset will wipe the hard drive but as we all have done I have a lot of time in my pics and want to do it the right way!
Your photos are always stored on one of your hard drives. They are never stored in the cloud.
So you will need to find out where the photos are, and make sure that the photos are not on the drive tht will be reset. You also need to find your Catalog file(s) (name ends with .LRCAT) and make sure you move that to a drive that will not be reset.
You might want to -- no wait a minute, "might want to" isn't what I meant to say -- you MUST familiarize yourself with the location of your photos and catalog file so that in the future, you won't have to wonder where they are stored.
After the reset, you move the catalog file and photos back to the EXACT SAME LOCATION that they were in before, and everything should be fine.
You should de-activate your copy of Lightroom CC before this reset. You do this by selecting Sign Out from the help menu.
Thanks a lot dj_paige! That is what I needed to know and I will follow that advice.
