I'm getting an error code 36
Where are you getting this error code? Operating system (which one) or Lightroom? Exactly what steps lead up to this error? What is the complete unedited word-for-word error message?
Also: state the version number of Lightroom that you are using.
I was using LR4 on a PC
I've just upgraded to Macbook Pro
Have two external drives, one was a back up the other was the drive I write to always.
I took the back up drive an wiped it clean then reformatted it to work with mac
I selected from my working drive the cat files and dragged them across to the back up drive as I will use that for now. My plan was once I had them on the back up drive to wipe my working drive clean and move them back.
75% of the way through moving the catalogue over I got an error 36 code. Some files were missing in the cat file.
I tried second time with same message at about the 90% mark. I assumed the catalogue was looking for images or something.
now I am in the middle of moving all 1 gig of images over to the back up drive hoping that when I remove the cat files over i won't get the error.
Lightroom is the very latest download from a subscription just purchased today through adobe.com
I'd like to give you the word for word error message but I am using finder to move the files. I saved the message in finder. Since this is mac I am not familiar with opening finder a second time to be able to read the error properly. Should have before I posted here I guess.
Thanks! That makes sense.
Also you should format the external to the Mac format using the Mac computer after you have copied, moved, all data from one to the other.
Use Windows to copy all data from one drive to the other. Disconnect the one drive that now has No Data on it and connect it to the Mac. Use Disk Utility to format that drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Connect the other drive to the Mac and COPY (Don't try to Move files from that second drive as to Move mean you also have to Delete the originals and to Delete means you have to Write to the drive you are moving from. Mac OS X can't Write to Windows NTFS formatted drives) all the files to the newly Mac formatted drive then format that second drive to the Mac OS X format.
yes.. thanks. I'm working through and familiar with all of that actually. I now have all my pics AND lrcat and Ldata on a newly formatted for mac external. I'm getting an unexpected error opening catalogue....
Not sure! I think it has to do with how or when I formatted the external for mac. It was previously used as my back up on pc.
How exactly did you format it? Did you use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format, Not the Encrypted option?
If the drive is in Good Working Order then re-formatting it from Windows to Mac shouldn't be a problem. Did you open the Options section and select GUID as the Partition table?
