This doesn't happen that often in each index I create, maybe 10 or 15 times (in an index with 800 names), but I have to look carefully through each index and catch all the mistakes. Any Suggestions?

InDesign ignores the comma and the space.
It uses - so to speak - all the letters of the last and first name as if the comma and the space weren't there.
There seems to be no solution.
A different approach would be to generate an index (Window > Type & Tables > Index).
There is special keyboard shortcut for first name/last name entries. Read the appropriate chapter in the help file,
because there are certain conditions.
