There are too many problems in 8.1 to 10 upgrading, specially in programs and features. So try to install your windows as ISO, you can use the torrent websites to achieving that, i have got the same issue when i get the 10 from 8.1, if you need help contact me directly here or on my email to asset email@example.com
Hope that finds you well
Has been crashing on Startup even after sorting out the preferences - I re - installed a couple of times but it didn't work.
Finally I uninstalled and deleted the folders in appdata and got a result.
Seems terribly clumsy though
Why? You can get the full installer from Microsoft and right from within Windows 10 you can reset the operating system. Why would choose an unauthorized method?
And, FWIW, I've upgraded numerous machines from 8 to 8.1 to 10 including one that's had every technical preview since day 1 on it and all of the Creative Cloud application run smoothly. That said, if it started as Windows 7 machine all bets are off.
As for the OP's issue, one thing I would suggest is to create a new user account and try to launch InDesign from there.
