As Photoshop CC 2015 is set as the External Editor, so if you want to add Photoshop CC 2014 as an additional editor, then you may add Photoshop CC 2014 as an Additional Editor from the preferences.
Please check the article to add PS CC 2014 as additional editor : Edit Lightroom photos in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
Let me know if it helps.
Thanks for your response, this is my point - I already have/had CC 2014 set up as an additional external editor exactly as described but LR no longer wants to use it. I've been using CC 2014 as external editor from considerable time but now LR doesn't want to use it anymore.
Could you please let me know what is the exact error you get ?
Or it does not do anything at all
Are you using Cmd+E
Try right clicking (control-click) on a thumbnail and choosing Edit In
The exact error is that LR refuses to allow me to edit in CC 2014 because it defaults to CC 2015 despite my best efforts in resetting prefs, etc. The problem is that whether I right click the image/thumbnail and choose <Edit In>, or go to Menus>Photo>Edit In, or use shortcut Alt+Cmd+E LR will only open CC 2015. I have included a screen shot of my LR Prefs for evidence. A I said above I have checked permissions, deleted prefs, run Disk Utility and repaired permission, restarted, etc., still only opens a photo in CC 2015 even though CC 2014 is chosen as the external editor.
Thanks for your response, tried it (see above) but no good.
Could you please uninstall Photoshop CC 2014 once from the computer.
Once done please check Lightroom , PS CC 2014 should not show in the list.
Then please reinstall Photoshop CC 2014 and add it as the Additional editor.
Sorry it made no difference. Are you using the older version to run plug-ins? Does it make any difference if PS CC 2014 is already running? Try opening PS from launch pad and then try again from LR.
Okay, I'll try that, but in the mean time here's a bizarre thing: if I right click on the image in LR and choose Edit In>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop... it opens the image in CC 2014 if I have CC 2014 already open. Weird! So LR does know where CC 2014 is and how to get it.
Okay, I have done as suggested, uninstalled CC 2014, then checked LR, however PS CC 2014 still showed in list so I cleared it in Prefs (I did try to select CC 2014 in the list and open image but LR just produced a greyed blank thumbnail and did nothing), I restarted the computer and rechecked LR, then I reinstalled PS CC 2014 and added it as additional external editor and... still the same result, LR opened CC 2015 instead. I am lost as to what is wrong or how to fix it or even understand why this is happening and now have to reset all my PS CC 2014 preferences. What to do? Thanks.
Anyone have any further insight as to how to fix this problem, please?
Unfortunately I have a similar problem and have not figured out how to make it work. In my case it's Photoshop CC 2015 and Photoshop CS6. For legacy reasons (plug-ins, etc) I want to use Photoshop CS6 for some images and have set it as the external editor. If I do edit a copy in Photoshop, or Edit original, it always goes to CC. If I cancel, I can then manually open the file in Photoshop but that's a time consuming workaround for something which should work as specified.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
