Script or method to average exposure

I run hundreds of photos through a batch process every night.

The process works best if each image has a "center weighted" histogram. It doesn't have to be a bell curve - I'd just like to equate the area above 50% exposure on my histogram to the area below 50%

Is there a way to automate this? I find that Lightroom's "auto-tone" does not make strong enough adjustments.

I do not know if Photoshop Auto-tone would be any better.  I do not use Lightroom so I do not know of other ways in lightroom you can address your problem. In photoshop besides Auto-tone there are Auto-Contrat and Auto-Color.  The Adobe provide some preset for Levels and Curves adjustments.  You would need to judge yourself if any of the settings would suitable for your automation needs.
