Would request you to please provide the exact dot version of Software & OS installed on your system. Also check whether any update is available for the software after going through 'Help > check for updates'.
If you have Win OS , please close the Preview pane feature .
Also try to turn off Adobe's Protected Mode :-
go to Edit->Preferences -> security (enhanced) > turn off the protected view & uncheck the enable enhanced security .

Thanks for the help, but still no go (tried on the off-network folder I created).
The preview pane is disabled.
I went into security (enhanced) and turned off the enable enhanced security (protected view was already off).
The exact version is Adobe Acrobat DC (15.010.20056) no update is available.
Any other suggestions?
Would like to make sure that these files are not saved on network drive , they are on local drive . If they are not on local, please save them.
Yes, one of the first things I did was take the files off the network into a new folder on the local drive.
