Could you please explain your workflow steps?
How exactly are you expecting those files to be read on other computers?
Once you have edited images in Lightroom Catalog, you need to export the images to get the edited version outside Lightroom.
Or, if you have Lightroom installed on other machine as well, you need have the catalog and original images on external drive so that you can access same Lightroom Catalog on both machines.
Hi, Thanks so much for the reply. I am new to LR so I will explain the best I can. I have been editing the files in LR and then in PSE. When I have finished editing the file, I have been hitting 'save as' and changing the file name and saving as JPEG in a new folder on my computer. From what I am
Understanding, I have broken the workflow and should have hit 'save' instead of 'save as.' I had made a memory stick of these images for a client, and they were not able to use them on the computer in the Walgreens to develop, it said ' image invalid.' I technically have lost the edited file in LR but still have it saved in PSE so I'm not sure where the issue exactly is...will I need to redo all the work so I can save it correctly? Also when I reopen in PSE it has the asterisk after the file name once open in the program, so I'm confused about that as well.
It seems that the image is missing in PSE which you might want to relocate if you know the actual location for that image.
I am not exactly sure about how to recover file from PSE, so you might want to raise a similar query in Photoshop Elements forum : Photoshop Elements
Would I be able to relocate the image if I have changed the file name? I
have found the copy that has been edited in LR because it has the -edit
after the file name. But the copy that has been edited in both has been
saved as a jpeg and renamed.

Yes, you can relocate even if the name has been changed.
If the edited version is there in Lightroom and is not missing, you can export it and save it at the location you want.
Ok, I am still confused! I need to be a JPEG though so it can be printed. How do I locate the file in PSE? Right now the files that I need are saved as Jpegs and in their own folder. Can I do anything with these files or do I need to redo all my work? I need to either 'fix' these files so that they can be printed or else start over. Because if I take the file from LR it doesn't have the PSE edits on it if that makes sense. If I can fix rhem what needs to change so that they can be used by the client? The file in LR is only what I have done in LR, not in PSE bc I didn't save correctly.
And also, can you tell me what exactly I need to do to save these files as a JPEG? I understand that I go to photo>edit in and then go to PSE and perform edits there. Then I save and then edited copy will show up in LR. But how do I save those files as Jpegs and export them so that they can be printed?
Files are not in PSE, the files are stored on your hard disk somewhere; but you can use the PSE Organizer to find the files and perform tasks on them, including editing them in the PSE Editor. If you can determine the name and folder location of the file somehow (using PSE or other method), then you should be able to find the photo on your hard disk.
So, are you using the PSE Organizer? Or are you just using the Editor?
Do you know the name of the file you are interested in? Do you know what folder it is in? If you can find it by any method, then you can save or export a JPG version of this file. If you can't find it, well ... there's not much we can do to help you.
I have not been using the organizer, I usually just use the editor. It's 32 files in total. I can see the ones I want in the organizer. Could you tell me what to from there? And thanks so much, I really appreciate all help.
And yes, when I click on the folder in the organizer all the files are there that I need.
I haven't used the Organizer in many years ... but I think this is what you do
- Select the desired photos by clicking on them (ctrl-click or shift-click to select many)
- Use the menu command File->Export->As New File, select JPG in the dialog box that appears, then select a folder that you want to hold all of these JPGs and click OK
Ok thanks so much!!! I'm trying now and hopefully these will work. I would kiss you if you were here!!!! Thank you so much
Thank you so much I was able to get that to work. One last question! Could you please tell me what to do with the files once I have edited in LR and then PSE? I understand that I click save and then the file will show up in LR with all edits. But what do I do from there? How do I organize all the edited files that I want to be saved as Jpegs to be sent to other media such as the memory stick?
Lightroom has 12 bazillion organizing tools. You can use any one of them that you want. I prefer assigning keywords and other metadata (captions, titles, etc.) to the photos so you can later use that information to search for a photo (because Lightroom has 13 bazillion search tools). That way, if in a few weeks I want to find the photo of that mirrored egg in downtown Chicago, this is a very simple search using the Filter Bar, takes about 10 seconds to find amongst my 28,000 images.
How do I organize all the edited files that I want to be saved as Jpegs to be sent to other media such as the memory stick?
Just to make sure that you understand this fundamental concept in LR -
Lightroom does not save images - it imports them, and lets you work on them, but if you need an image to use outside LR, you have to export it.
Select the image(s) in Library, and click Export.
