I have been designing a book for months and it is finally ready to send off to the printers and I'm having issues sending the book file.
When the printers try to open it a message comes up as follows: "(name of file).indd is missing or can't be opened or is locked. PDF export has been cancelled. Please update this file and try again."
Is this an error on their end or is it something with my links? Once in a while lately when I go to open an individual link inside my book another message pops up "This document contains a link to a source that is missing. you can find or relink the missing link using the Links panel." Once I hit OK it allows me to open it.
I've never had this problem before so if anyone has any insight, that would be wonderful!
Apparently the printer is looking for a PDF; why don’t you just export one and send that?
In the end it will be a PDF file, however, they are requesting the actual document as well. I was able to export a PDF no problem and send it off, it's just the original file they are having issues with the missing links. Also, nothing shows up in my links directory to see what link is actually missing.
Use the Package feature (File > Package) for a single InDesign file.
For a book file, choose Package Book for Print from the panel menu.
