I've recently discovered C4D Lite in AE and tried to create a simple 3D text to then import into AE.
However C4D Lite is responding very slow, eg jerky when using the rotate and move viewing tools (the text it stutters/hangs when moving the view during creation for short intervals, turning the 3D text into wire frame then just a square). Once in AE, when using the AE camera tool in 3D, this also results in jerky and very slow movement.
C4D does recognise my GPU under the opengl settings. Plus I've played around with the render settings of the C4D plugin in AE (also trying the new opengl mode). I've also changed AEs settings to set aside ~25% of RAM for other apps, whilst moving all my cache to SSD. But it doesn't help.
Can you please advise how I can improve performance of both C4D Lite and its plugin in AE? Is it time to bury and change my GPU or fork out for other expensive hardware upgrades to make the process smoother? Please find specs below.
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 4770K @ 3.50 Ghz (4 cores/8 threads)
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 680 2GB
Drives: combination of HDD and SSDs
CC versions: AE 2015 (18.104.22.168) and C4D Lite R16
Well, have you actually updated your graphics drivers? C4D's OpenGL is far from robust and very sensitive to flaky drivers and certain completely incompatible driver versions. Check the Maxon support pages...
Thanks - that did the trick!! Updated to the latest version 361.75 and the thing works like a dream now. Really appreciate this
Thanks for letting us know what worked! It'll be very helpful for future forum visitors.
