I have faced junk character issue in the .eps art file while change the High Quality Display in InDesign CS6 (version 8.1). Also i have checked by deleting the older preferences and restore the new InDesign preferences, but couldn't resolve this bug. Anybody, could you please provide the solution to fix this problem since I need to deliver the file to customer today.
I'm not exactly sure what "junk character issue" means in your case. Can you provide some screenshots?
Things you can try:
1. If you have the app at hand where the EPS file was created from, maybe Adobe Illustrator, save as AI file wih PDF compatibility and place the AI file.
2. If you cannot do 1. and you have Acrobat Pro where Adobe Distiller comes along, distill the EPS to PDF and place the PDF.
If you create a PDF from the InDesign document, will the "junk characters" also showing up in the PDF?
I suppose that the font in your EPS file is not embedded correctly.
I would suggest that you open that EPS in its original application or create a new PDF/X-4 from the original application and import that into InDesign. Avoid EPS as it is outdated. Use PDF instead, use PDF/X-4 to be sure to meet all needed standards in InDesign.
