What changed on your system overnight?
Have you tried using System Restore?
Hi! Thank you for answering! :-D
My computer was off overnight... per what I know... so nothing should have happen... a theoretically nothing happens to a machine while its off right?
System Restore? I dont know what this is...
It's possible Windows ran updates when it shut down (It like to do that). System Restore is a way to go back in time with programs and OS, but it doesn't affect your data files. Type it into the search field of the start menu.
mh, no, I checked and the option Automatic updates is disabled. Unfortunately the System Restore option is disabled as well :-( (I was not the one setting up the computer so I guess this was a choice of the previous administrator). Well, I enabled it now!
I guess this does not help for this problem though. Any other suggestion I could try?
I’m thinking of reinstalling window. I’m running WIN XP Ser Pack 3 by the way and I’ve got InDesign CS5.5 (if these info helps).
I don't think you need to get that drastic.
Check the Event Viewer and see if the version of MSVCP.dll is identified. You should be able to download and reinstall just that from the Microsoft site. I see MSVCP71.dll (version 7.10.3077.0)
and MSVCp60.dll (version 6.0.8168.0) in the InDesign CS5.5 application folder...
I found this:
and i followed the instructions however it did not help :-( I get the same error message...
Wow, I think I somehow messed up my machine quite good eh?! :-P
Its funny though that if I dont touch the error message (meaning I dont press OK) I can use INDD normally. The problem is that this message appears at every document I open so I take very short time to fill up my desktop hehehe
I see as well that if I open Illustrator, it crashes after few seconds and, same as INDD, if I dont touch the error message (which is not the same error though as INDD), I can use it normally...
Do you still have your original installers and serial numbers handy? I think the next step would be to uninstall CS5.5 (and run the cleaner tool: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), then reinstall your Adobe apps and any updates.
mission failed. I did what the link you gave me says and nope, same error...
I’m starting to consider that maybe the problem is not with InDesign, is this possible?
I uninstalled INDD, maybe I need to reinstall the whole suite...?
The cleaner tool should have wiped out the entire suite...
Yes, it did indeed...
I kind of give up for the last few weeks, I did not find time to reinstall windows so Im still working with this error. I noticed that I get an error on all 3 Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and I cannot open them at the same time anymore, only 2 at the time (very annoying).
Yesterday however I had to use the computer with a different logon and, surprise, I did not get any error when I opened InDesign! So I thought the problem could be on a file that if in the document and settings so I tried to remove the whole folder c:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe
InDesign started like if I was opening it for the very first time however the error come up again.
Maybe this problem is with one of the plugins. By removing the adobe folder from the application data, do I remove also all the plugins or there is some other folder else I should try remove?
Plugins are generally installed in the application folder in Program Files. Working in a different user sounds like either a permissions problem, or perhaps something in the registry, though I don't have any concrete advice about where to look there.
