Lightroom CC Freezes after import (Feb 2016)

    JBStar Level 1

Since the most recent update to Lightroom (Feb 2016), it freezes after importing photos - even a single photo. I can close the program with the X in the top right of the taskbar, or by using Task Manager. Once I reopen Lightroom my pictures are there and everything proceeds as normal. However it is very annoying to have to restart each time. I have graphics acceleration turned off. Anyone have a suggestion on how to stop this bad behavior?

I emphasize I have been using Lightroom for over a year without this happening: it's only since the most recent Creative Cloud update of the program. Thanks.

          Hi JBStar,

You can try these following steps.

Turn off the Graphics Processor from the Lightroom Preferences.

          Open Lightroom

Go to Lightroom Preferences from the Edit menu

          Click on Performance tab

          Uncheck the Graphics Processor

          Restart Lightroom

Purge Cache from the File Handling Tab

          Open Lightroom

Go to Lightroom Preferences from the Edit menu

          Click on File Handling

          Purge both cache

          Restart Lightroom

Create new catalog Or Create new user account on windows machine and use Lightroom there.

          Let us know the outcome.

          Regards,

          Mohit

Thank you Mohit. As you will notice from my first post, I had done all the procedures in your list, except the final sentence "Create new catalog Or Create new user account on windows machine and use Lightroom there".

I did create a new Catalog, and it seemed to fix the problem: I was able to get into the Develop mode. However, after a minute the program froze again.

Creating a new Windows account is not a viable option for me, so I need another suggestion please.

Since yesterday I have uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom. The program still freezes after importing. This happens whether the import is from a camera, or a card, or the file system. There is no evidence of the freeze until you click somewhere on the screen (e.g. on Develop), but within a few seconds of clicking, the program is "Not Responding" and can only be closed with the X on the program's window, or with the Task Manager.

I have twice done all the steps that Mohit prescribed, without avail.

              What next..... ?

After you upgrade to Windows 10 it does create some permission issue within the user account.

therefor, I would suggest you to create a local user account and use the application there just to test it.

                Regards,

                Mohit

I am experiencing a similar issue, but a tad different: When I open LR CC 2015.4 everything comes up from the catalogue, however, when I hit the import button at the bottom left I get a response that the program is not responding and it just sticks.

Running windows 10 54 bit, amd 64 machine with 6GB mem., 1 TB HD, Radeon graphic card with 512mb memory.

LR worked fine until recently with the above configuration, it only became buggy since the most Win update on OS.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Following Mohit's advice, I created a local account in Windows 10; then I opened Lightroom and tried an import, which worked OK; then I logged out of my newly-created account and logged back into my normal account. I tried a Lightroom import there, and it works without freezing! Thank you Mohit. I have no idea why that works but I'm glad I don't have to spend more time on this problem!
