Adobe InDesign and Macbook 3.1 compatibility...

Hello guys, newbie here. This may have been answered before, but I will carry on. I have a Macbook 3.1 (cannot afford a newer one at the moment). I have upgraded (by disc) to Snow Leopard and intended to upgrade again to Mountain Lion. This is to subscribe to InDesign and Acrobat programs. My queries are: Is Mountain Lion enough for me (as was suggested by an Apple Store guru) to upload the latest InDesign and Acrobat, or do I have to go up to Yosemite/Maverick level. Also the RAM required - does anyone know if this specific Macbook can support more RAM (slots) or is limited to use a specific amount? Many thanks in advance...Adobe
